Q&A: What Movie Musicals Should I See?

Question by Miss Kennedy: What Movie Musicals Should I See?
Ok, I have watched many a musical in my short life time, but I want to see more :D I love them! Here is a list of the movie-musicals I have seen (off the top of my head, and in no particular order):
– The Rocky Horror Picture Show
– Hair
– Some Like it Hot
– Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
– The Sound of Music
– Xanadu
– Sweeny Todd
– Grease
– Chicago
– Hairspray
– Calamity Jane

I know there are more, but which ones do you think I should see? What are your favourites?
Thanks!

Steer clear of Phantom of the opers. The movie doesn’t do it justice. Go see it in person if you ever get the chance!
I think you may have seen the best already.. Oklahoma? look for some of the older ones like My Fair Lady, Singing in the rain and such. They’re always good and don’t spoil the magic of the musical special effects etc

“Oklahoma!” was the first musical where the songs actually tied in with the plot.

“Duck Soup” has the Marx Brothers as Groucho becomes the Prime Minister of Freedonia (Hail, hail Freedonia, Land of the free and brave!)

“A Hard Day’s Night” stars The Beatles in a Marx-esque romp about the boys and the efforts to get them on stage, on time, for a television event.

“Annie Get Your Gun” Big, colorful show about the romance between famous sharpshooter Annie Oakley and her husband, Frank Butler.

“The Wizard of Oz” The granddaddy of Technicolor musicals, and arguably the very best. I recently re-watched it, and it’s amazing. Even the little dog hits all his cues!
