People are greedy and selfish, and if they can take someones hard work for themselves and benefit from it, they will. It's kind of a scale, with free downloading at the bottom, and say, treason or murder to get something you want at the top. As the scale escalates, fewer and fewer people will want to screw someone else over to get what they want. But at the bottom, it's okay, everyone does it. Or at least that's the mentality. As long as they aren't actively hurting someone, it doesn't matter, they can convince themselves that it's all right to do it. But that doesn't change the fact that it's still taking something for free that someone else made, without their permission or knowledge. Or to put it simply; stealing.

On top of that, if they don't have to look their victim in the eye when they hurt them, they see it as a victimless crime.

There are concerts. So if I was a musician I'd want as many people as possible to listen to my music free or not free so that I could have more sales at a concert especially if no one knew who I was anyway. If I was in the Who or the Doors maybe I'd want people buying my albums seeing as how I'd sell out anyway.
